Have you ever wondered to yourself if that cute nerdy guy sitting nearby was flirting with you?

Most men will approach you, and won’t be afraid to aggressively pursue you.

These are the men you can lure in – because they will bite.

However, the nerdy kind is an entirely different ball game.

Nerds are usually shy, and utterly devoted to their chosen field – this can be anything, from snails to stars.

Their immense interest focused on a specific subject is what makes them a nerd.

So if that drummer you met at the bar can go on about the specifics of his instrument for a good hour, you know he is a nerd.

Their incredible interest and knowledge about their subject is what frequently makes them a little socially awkward.

Now, while it’s completely possible that a nerd is an outgoing party person, most aren’t.

This is because they seem to focus all their energy on a particular topic, and so they don’t necessarily understand the basic skills needed to carry out a regular flirting conversation.

Consequently, don’t be surprised if he ends up giving you a two-hour lecture on tiger scat as though it’s the most amazing topic ever.

He really does believe that. But if he is so socially awkward, how does a nerdy man flirt?

Well, the lack of social skills and the inherent shyness that comes with it can make this a bit of a challenge.

For one thing, such men tend to be extremely subtle. No one likes being shot down, least of all the nerds.

Moreover, they are a lot less confident at this game as opposed to the more experienced bunch.

As a result, that cute little maniac sitting next to you might just break into a sweat before he finishes saying, ‘hello!’

So don’t expect a smooth pick up line or a suave gesture to sweep you off your feet just yet.

Here is how a nerdy man might try to flirt instead:

 The Invite:

Where any average man might ask their crush if they would like to go for dinner and a movie, a nerd will take an entirely different approach.

To that pretty face, they may look deep into their eyes and ask, ‘Will you join me for World of Warcraft tonight?’

If you are tempted to laugh – don’t. He is entirely serious.

Whenever a nerd invites you to join him in his subject of obsession – he definitely likes you.

So whether it is a documentary, museum exhibit, or even some book reading – go for it if this is the nerd of your dreams.

Little Things:

Nerds tend to be a little weak on their flirting game – if you didn’t know that already.

So they are also the more shy, romantic kind.

This means, he will express his feelings in the most subtle way possible.

From staring while he thinks you aren’t looking, to little gestures that could often be overlooked.

He will remember the important things in your life, give you meaningful presents, and even try impressing you with his immense knowledge.

All of this is, of course, unless he is Sheldon Cooper.

The Silent Move:

But just when you thought the nerdy flirting moves can’t get any stranger – they do.

A regular man will be thrilled if you sit next to him.

He will strike up a conversation and try to keep it going.

A nerd, on the other hand, will sit right there.

There is a good chance he won’t even say a word except for numerous side glances in your direction.

This can be a little creepy, but he really just doesn’t know what to say! So in the nerd-realm, not getting up and moving to another seat can be seen as a sign of (at least) liking the other person.

A regular man will admit woefully, ‘you can never figure a woman out’, but we all know that’s not true.

It’s the nerdy man that wins this prize.

You can never know what they are thinking, because they tend to overthink every glance, gesture, and action.

“She blinked her eyes at me – what could that possibly mean??” – granted that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but their intellect makes them more prone to overthinking.

So if you have a nervous nerd standing in front of you trying to splutter the right words out, chances are – he is trying to ask you out.
